Laura, South Australia

Welcome to Laura

The country around Gladstone and Laura forms the floor of an amphitheatre encircled by the Southern Flinders Ranges.

Photo by Outback ExposuresCrops, the like of which have not been seen in the vicinity for several years past, wave magnificently across the plain and undulating slopes of the hills. Laura revels in the luxuriance of its verdure. The surrounding country is a vast carpet covered with natural beauty of harvest and wild flower growth. The brilliant mauve of smoke weed and the lemon yellow of the mustard plant or wild turnip, each cover separate areas or mingle in a blaze of glorious colour.

the grey green of the self sown crops. The silver of oats and wild grasses gleams in the sunshine, and the only breaks in the miles of coming harvest are a white streak of road, occasionally a sheltering row of trees, a cosy farmstead or a mob of sleek coated stock buried up to their flanks in succulent feed.

Photo by Outback ExposuresAway to the hills stretch paddocks of emerald green wheat, alternating with the red and brown of fallow land - the deep dark green of the distant foliage or Laura and district is still as lovely a place as ever, see our facilities and other assets and you'll wonder why you aren't living here too.
